Children's book and ecology

The aim of this diploma thesis is to map the offer of children's books with ecological themes in the Czech Republic and to create author's own book with a methodological manual for environmental education. In the theoretical part, suitable topics will be researched in books about ecology for environmental education aimed at first grade of primary school and an analysis of children's books focused on ecology will be made. The practical part is devoted to project days, when author's own book is being used, and in the end, a questionnaire concerning the teaching environment at the first grade of primary school is demonstrated. On the character of books for beginner readers with regard to text difficulty and readability

The thesis deals with the book genre Erstlesebuch (book for beginner readers) and has in view its contemporary character with regard to readability for beginner readers. The theoretical part presents its interdisciplinary and the specifics of this book genre itself. In reference to the interdisciplinarity there are findings of following disciplines to allow: literary science, more precisely children's literature research, readability research, didactic reading and psychology of reading. The theoretical part also reveals some characteristics of Erstlesebuch in contrast with a common book for children and with belles- lettres at all. The theoretical-analytic part focuses on the complex analysis of six chosen contemporary Erstlesebuchs and is composed by three parts: a literary theoretical commentary, an analysis readability, and a comment on the composition of these books. The final part of the thesis concludes with empirical research. This research tested the influence of some criteria of readability by the children in second and third classes of a primary school in Austria. The role of the book in evolution of the children's imagination

The master thesis deals with the importance of the book in evolution of the children's imagination. The first part includes short introduction to problems of children's imagination. The second part is engaged in ontogeny of child from prenatal period to the middle childhood and in progress of key competences. It analyzes selected psychological approaches, which had the imagination as a subject of the research. The thesis explains and defines basic terms and processes of the imagination. It deals with a specific phenomenon of the children's imagination and with the evolution of the imagination. The third part introduces typical children's literature, directs on the traditional fairytale and it specifies problems of the literary characters too. It describes the historical development of the Czech book illustration, importance of the illustration in books for children and it also describes children's drawings. The fourth part applies all of previous pieces of knowledges into the work experience in kindergarten. It also describes relations between child and school or child and book. The final part of the master thesis includes summary of the information. [Author's abstract].
Harmony of the visual and verbal component in childrensʼ books over the last seventy years

The subject of this diploma thesis is the harmony of the visual and verbal component in childrens' books. In the theoretical part, fundamental definitions of the underlying terms (visual component, ilustrator, verbal component in its written context, writer) with respect to scientific literature are given. Further, carefully selected opinions of experts on childrens' literature are delved into and supplmeneted with author's comments. The popularization of books for children is to be credited not only to experts from the specified field, but also to individuals who promote them to the general public by recognition awards. A detailed overview of authors of the past 70 years, i.e. from the turn of the first and second half of the 20th century up until today, is presented. The harmony of both, the visual and verbal component present in their works is further enquired. Selected books are introduced and classified in terms of the connection of their text and artistic components. The practical part of this thesis introduces the aggregate of conclusions drawn from teaching four lessons on the subject of literary education and an additional lesson on art education. This Master's thesis deals with the life and work of the South Bohemian educator and writer Jindřich Malšínský. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part aims to describe by means of the biographical method the writers biography. The second part includes selected work of J. Malšínský with a specific focus on the interpretation of the novel called Principál by means of hermeneutic approach.

Baobab Publishing Company-publishing companys profile, its media image and place on the Czech Book Market

Thesis "Baobab Publishing Company - publishing company ́s profile, its media image and place on the Czech book market" deals with an alternative publishing house specializing in child readers. Baobab has been on the market for ten years. In my work, I will present its past functioning and contribution to Czech readers during this period. The thesis describes the formation and evolution of publishing company, its profile, vision and direction. It gives an account of its editing programs and special events organized by the company. Space is dedicated to awards which Baobab has collected in the Czech Republic and abroad, as well as to the current issue of VAT increase. It may have a big impact on the Czech book market and on small publishers in particular. Furthermore, the work concentrates on the media image of the publishing company. The analysis is based on newspaper articles in Czech periodicals and evaluates how often and to what extent is media engaged in publishing activities. I also discusses the problem of the lack of journalists who would be continuously reporting on children's books, and would be able to evaluate them profesionally.
